Polyamide (PA6 / PA12)

Nylon is the toughest, most durable common filament. It offers exceptional layer adhesion and impact strength, but is the most demanding to print, requiring mandatory drying, active dry-box feeding, high temperatures, and an enclosure, with moderate warping, shrinkage, and moisture sensitivity that make it unsuitable for beginners.

Ease of use: Very hard

This filament is demanding to print. Worth watching: it can be very moisture-sensitive and low on heat resistance.

Things to watch

  • Can warp on large or sharp-cornered prints
  • Extremely thirsty, keep it sealed with desiccant and dry it right before printing
  • Softens in heat, not for hot cars or near heat sources
  • Shrinks as it cools, which can affect dimensional accuracy
  • Fussy about bed adhesion, use a brim, glue, or a textured plate
